Gli Houston Rockets fanno registrare la terza sconfitta di fila, cadendo con un netto 130-101 sul campo dei New Orleans Pelicans, nonostante le ottime prove di John Wall e dell’ex di turno Eric Gordon, rispettivamente autori di 25 punti, 4 rimbalzi e 6 assist col 48% dal campo (11 su 23) e di 23 punti col 40% da dietro l’arco (4 su 10). La batosta in Louisiana fa seguito al pesantissimo KO per 119-94 in casa degli Charlotte Hornets e fa scivolare i texani al dodicesimo posto a Ovest, con un record di undici vittorie e tredici sconfitte.
Dopo la striscia di sei successi consecutivi, Houston ha vinto appena una delle ultime cinque gare disputate, soprattutto a causa delle numerose assenze. L’infortunio di Christian Wood, infatti, ha privato gli uomini di Stephen Silas del proprio miglior scorer, rimbalzista e stoppatore stagionale. Oltre all’ex Pistons, i Rockets hanno dovuto rinunciare a Wall e Gordon contro gli Hornets e a Oladipo contro i Pelicans, venendo sconfitti in entrambi i casi. Ciò nonostante, Houston resta in piena corsa per un posto ai playoff e sembra in grado di potersi rialzare.
Wall e Gordon non bastano, i Rockets guarderanno al mercato?
Nel frattempo, in vista della trade deadline del prossimo 25 marzo, numerosi rumors riportano la possibilità che i Rockets scambino uno tra Victor Oladipo e P.J. Tucker, se non entrambi. Il primo, arrivato poche settimane fa nell’ambito della trade che ha portato James Harden ai Brooklyn Nets, sta viaggiando a medie di 19.6 punti, 4.9 rimbalzi, 5.2 assist e 1.1 palle recuperate in 10 partite in quel di Houston, ma non è riuscito a convincere pienamente (39% dal campo e 30% da dietro l’arco). Inoltre, il suo contratto da 21 milioni di dollari scadrà al termine di questa stagione.
Stessa sorte per Tucker, che sta disputando, numeri alla mano, la sua peggior stagione da quando è a Houston, con medie di appena 4.7 punti, 4.6 rimbalzi e 1.4 assist col 39% al tiro e il 33% dalla lunga distanza. 36 anni da compiere il prossimo 5 maggio, il veterano ha un contratto da poco meno di 8 milioni fino alla fine dell’annata attualmente in corso e il suo nome è sul taccuino di numerose contender che sono alla ricerca di un difensore d’esperienza capace di farsi valere da dietro l’arco.
