Sabato sera i Bulls hanno messo sotto contratto il lungo free agent Tristan Thompson, ma solo ieri sera sono arrivato delle indiscrezioni sul suo contratto. L’ex Kings, infatti, non è stato firmato con un contratto al minimo, come si pensava, ma con una BEA (bi-annual exception), stando a quanto riportato da Pincus di Bleacher Report. Facendo così la franchigia di Chicago pagherà Thompson un po’ di più, in quanto riceverà 1 milione con la BAE, rispetto ai 774.289 dollari con un eventuale minimo.
Chicago pronta a spendere un po’ di più per soddisfare le richiesto di Thompson
La mossa è probabilmente dettata della volontà di soddisfare una maggiore richiesta economica del giocatore, che voleva qualcosa più del minimo che riceveva McKinnie. La Bea, come suggerisce il nome, è eccezione biennale, quindi disponibile una volta ogni due stagioni. Chicago, dunque, non l’avrà a disposizione nel 2022/23. I Bulls sono una delle due squadra ad aver usufruito di ciò, l’altra sono i Mavericks, usata in estate per ingaggiare Sterling Brown.
La BAE, come la Mid-Level Exeption, è un contratto che permette a una squadra di ingaggiare un giocatore con un contratto superiore al minimo, ma comunque minore del MLE. Di quest’ultima, inoltre, le franchigie NBA ne dispongono 2 a testa, ma i Chicago le ha già utilizzate entrambe per firmare Alex Caruso e Marko Simonovic in offseason.
L’arrivo di Thompson è fondamentale per i Bulls, soprattutto per aggiustare le medie a rimbalzo. La franchigia dell’Illinois, infatti, è attualmente 27° in rimbalzi totali e 29° in rimbalzi offensivi. L’ex Cavs, però, ha proprio nella lotto sotto canestro uno dei suoi punti forti e sicuramente le medie di Chicago in questa caratteristica aumenteranno con il suo arrivo. Tra i giocatori attivi, è quinto nei rimbalzi offensivi in carriera e quarto nella percentuale. È anche il primo di tutti i tempi, con Dennis Rodman, per percentuale di rimbalzi offensivi nei playoffs.
Bulls, Zach LaVine felice dell’arrivo di Thompson e della fiducia che riceve dal front office
Parlando di reazioni, in casa Bulls, sembrano tutti molto contenti di poter accogliere il nuovo compagno. Il primo a parlare è stato Zach LaVine, che al Chicago Tribune ha dichiarato:
“Tristan è un ragazzo che porterà esperienza e mentalità vincente. Lui ha giocato diverse partite di post-season, arrivando spesso alle Finals, ed essendo noi molto giovani potrà aiutarci in situazioni per noi nuove. Grazie alle mosse di AK (Arturas Karnisovas) e Marc (Eversley) siamo ancora migliorati come roster. Loro si fidano di me, si fidano di DeMar, si fidano di questo gruppo e l’arrivo di Thompson è solo un aiuto per fare meglio e coprire le nostre lacune. Questa fiducia per me significa molto per me essendo nell’ultimo anno del mio contratto, in quanto stanno costruendo una squadra in grado di competere per la vittoria con me assolutamente dentro al progetto”
Thompson, nelle 34 partite giocate in questa stagione, viaggia a una media di 6.3 punti e 5.3 rimbalzi (di cui 2.3 offensivi) in 15.3 minuti a partita. Il tutto tirando con il solito e affidabile 50.3% dal campo, con 5.2 tentativi a partita.
