La sfida del PalaRadi tra Vanoli Basket Cremona e Umana Reyer Venezia apre le danze della domenica della 24° giornata del campionato di Serie A. I padroni di casa vengono da tre sconfitte consecutive, l’ultima pesantissima a Treviso, che hanno fatto scivolare i bianco-blu alle porte della lotta salvezza (12° posto con 9-14). Gli ospiti invece dal canto loro sono reduci dal super successo casalingo su Milano, vittoria che ha portato gli oro-granata al secondo posto in classifica (16-7) insieme alla Virtus Bologna.
Cremona punta quindi ad ottenere due punti fondamentali per non sprofondare ulteriormente in graduatoria, mentre Venezia vuole consolidare la propria posizione ai piani alti.
Sono 34 i precedenti tra le due formazioni, tra cui diverse sfide playoff, con la Reyer che conduce 25-9 nel record complessivo. Nel match d’andata i veneti si sono imposti 79-76 in un finale a cardiopalma dove De Nicolao e soci hanno rischiato di gettare al vento una partita condotta per tutti i 40′ di gioco. A disposizione di coach Spahija non ci saranno Jordan Parks (bicipite femorale) e Jeff Brooks (blocco lombare).

Partita dalle mille emozioni e dalle varie facce quella andata in scena al PalaRadi di Cremona, con la Vanoli che sfrutta il suicidio sportivo di Venezia per completare una super rimonta e portare a casa un successo pesantissimo. Sia per l’avversario mandato KO sia per la classifica.
I padroni di casa partono fortissimo e con un parziale di 15-0 scappano sul +14 a metà della prima frazione, salvo poi subire la reazione di Venezia che con un 10-0 si riporta sotto e chiude sul -4. I bianco-blu provano ad allungare nuovamente in avvio di secondo periodo, ma anche questa volta la Reyer reagisce e con un 13-4 impatta alla pausa lunga sul 42-42. Nella ripresa sono finalmente gli oro-granata a prendere in mano le operazioni, dominando su entrambe le metà campo e scappando sulla doppia cifra di vantaggio grazie ad un altro grande parziale (14-2). Il +14 lagunare di inizio ultimo quarto sembra aver indirizzato la sfida, ma non è così: De Nicolao e soci fanno harakiri e gettano al vento il proprio vantaggio, calando clamorosamente in attacco e concedendo troppo in difesa. Cremona piazza 33 punti nella frazione e nella roulette dei tiri liberi porta a casa la vittoria.
Ad essere decisivi sono quindi i 10′ finali, dove la Vanoli ha ribaltato completamente la partita vincendo il periodo 33-18. Fondamentale il parziale di 17-3 con cui i padroni di casa “mangiano” tutto il vantaggio ospite impattando la gara sull’80-80 a 3′ dalla conclusione, ma soprattutto la prova di un Lacey che decide di accendersi e di segnare tutti i suoi 18 punti nel quarto decisivo.
Ottima in generale la prestazione della truppa agli ordini di coach Cavina, che è abile a sfruttare ogni momento di blackout degli avversari per rimanere incollata alla partita e piazzare poi il colpo nel finale, mostrando anche una freddezza che non va data per scontata.
In difesa Cremona a tratti dimostra un buon approccio, anche se determinante è stato il lavoro eseguito in attacco: 12 rimbalzi offensivi, 16 assist, 49% da due e 39% da tre (ma anche 14 perse, unico neo). A livello individuale spiccano sicuramente le prove di un pirotecnico Denegri (23 punti, 5/10 dal campo e 10/10 ai liberi, di cui 4 cruciali negli ultimi secondi), di McCullough (18 punti, 7/13 al tiro) e del già citato Lacey, con i tre che si spartiscono il ruolo di protagonisti nell’arco del match. Validi però anche gli apporti di tutto il resto del roster, da Adrian a Pecchia, passando per Davis, Golden ed Eboua, con ognuno capace di piazzare giocate utili al successo finale.
Dall’altro lato per Venezia questa sconfitta rappresenta oltre che una grande delusione, anche un campanello d’allarme: non è infatti la prima volta in questa stagione che i lagunari mostrano questi cali inspiegabili buttando via delle partite che erano già in tasca.
Dopo un inizio di gara pessimo, con coach Spahija espulso per doppio tecnico dopo 4′ e un parziale di 15-0, la Reyer era anche riuscita a rimettere in piedi la partita. Tessitori aveva tenuto in piedi i compagni nella prima frazione, chiusa sul -4, per poi aiutare Wiltjer e Tucker a ricucire definitivamente il gap nel secondo periodo. Nella terza frazione il #59 oro-granata e Heidegger lanciano la fuga ospite sul +13, che diventa +14 in avvio di ultimo periodo. Poi il buio. In verità i lagunari si ritrovano sul +5 a 1’30” dalla fine, ma gettano al vento anche quello subendo due bombe e sbagliando dei liberi di troppo.
Il 63% da due viene annullato dalle 17 perse e dagli errori dalla linea della carità (19/27), con una gestione tecnico-tattica della partita abbastanza rivedibile negli ultimi 7′ di gioco. I 33 punti subiti nell’ultima frazione risultano ingiustificabili, con una difesa che ha comunque faticato anche nei primi 20′ di gioco (salvandosi di fatto solo nella terza frazione).
A livello individuale a nulla servono i 21 punti di Wiltjer, i 18 di Heidegger e i 16 di Tucker, con Tessitori che risulta il quarto uomo in doppia cifra per i veneti.
