Una stagione “infinita” ma allo stesso tempo più breve rispetto alle altre, questa stagione NBA è quasi arrivata al capolinea e purtroppo molti sono dovuti scendere prima.
Stanotte si darà il via all’ultimo atto, le NBA Finals tra Milwakee Bucks e Phoenix Suns, le due franchigie hanno saputo farsi strada in questi tormentati playoffs. Se da una parte, a Est, i Bucks erano dati favoriti a essere una contender, dall’altra non tutti vedevano i Suns arrivare così lontano nella post-season. Senza nulla togliere ai ragazzi di Monty Williams, che si sono dimostrati in fin dei conti la squadra più coerente durante tutto l’arco di stagione, i diversi infortuni hanno reso più incerte alcune serie playoffs.
Basti pensare che quasi ogni franchigia non ha potuto contare per parte o tuta la durata dei playoffs di alcune delle proprie stelle. Da LeBron James a Anthony Davis, da Murray a Leonard, persino Chris Paul e Giannis, i Big Three di Brooklyn che non sono riusciti a giocare insieme durante i playoffs e molti altri ancora come Embiid, Young etc.
Se da una parte gli infortuni ogni anno hanno mietuto vittime importanti, dall’altra molti si chiedono se una brevissima pre-season abbinata a un calendario da 72 partite e playoffs completi in breve tempo non abbiamo per così dire “corroso” i giocatori al punto di infortunarsi con questa frequenza.
Chris Paul: “Tutti hanno potuto parlare, discussione sempre aperta”
Già qualche tempo fa LeBron James, protagonista di playoffs sbiaditi, aveva criticato apertamente la durata della stagione tanto da twittare: “Lo avevo detto, ma nessuno mi ha ascoltato”. Affermazione che mette d’accordo molti, ma allo stesso tempo tanti si chiedono se il cammino dei Lakers, visti come favoriti, fosse stato come pronosticato, il Re si sarebbe lamentato ugualmente.
È arrivata una risposta tra le righe da parte di Chris Paul, presidente dell’associazione giocatori, che ha commentato: “Se c’è una cosa di questa lega è che c’è sempre una conversazione aperta. Ci sono tantissime persone che in questo momento stanno lavorando senza sosta dietro le quinte, mi piacerebbe che voi poteste vederle. Quando ci sono decisioni sul giocare o non giocare, i giocatori sono sempre coinvolti”.
E riguardo ai tanti infortuni: “Gli infortuni sono sempre sfortunati, è orribile che ci siano. Ma così come accaduto per la bolla, tutto è stato discusso tra i giocatori. E quello che va bene per uno può non essere lo stesso per un altro. Su tutto però c’è sempre stata una conversazione e così continuerà ad essere. Se alle persone non piace, sappiano che tutti hanno la stessa opportunità di far parte di questa conversazione”.
In poche parole Paul sembra dire: “se ci sono problemi, parliamone”.
