Nella notte si è giocata una partita spettacolare tra due delle squadre più in forma del momento: gli ancora imbattuti Golden State Warriors e i frizzanti Toronto Raptors. La sfida è stata vinta dai primi, ma la cosa più spettacolare della serata è stato il duello accesissimo tra le due stelle delle rispettive franchigie: Steph Curry da una parte e Kyle Lowry dall’altra. I due playmaker hanno dato prova di tutte le loro capacità e di tutta la loro intelligenza cestistica.
Curry è stato autore di 44 punti, tirando con percentuali fantascientifiche dal campo (58% dal campo, su 24 tentativi, e con il 60% da tre punti, su 15 tentativi), distribuendo oltretutto anche ben 7 assist ai suoi compagni. Per la seconda partita consecutiva il playmaker dei Warriors ha segnato almeno 8 triple, aggiungendosi alla schiera ridottissima di giocatori che ci erano riusciti prima di lui: nel 1996 George McCloud dei Dallas Mavericks era riuscito a segnare per due volte di seguito 8 triple, mentre Jr. Smith, con la maglia dei New York Knicks, era riuscito a fare addirittura meglio (8 e 10) poco più di un anno fa.
Lowry, invece, ha realizzato ben 40 punti (career-high) e distribuito anch’egli 7 assist, contribuendo alla risalita dei Raptors dopo lo svantaggio iniziale e combattendo colpo su colpo ogni attacco degli avversari.
Nella storia dell’NBA è solamente la settima volta che due diversi giocatori segnano entrambi almeno 40 punti e consegnano almeno 7 assist, senza tempi supplementari: l’ultima volta è stata nell’aprile del 2006, quando LeBron James (per i Cleveland Cavaliers) e Dwyane Wade (per i Miami Heat) segnarono rispettivamente 47 e 44 punti, consegnando 9 assist a testa.
