Kyle Kuzma, arriva l’annuncio dei Lakers: il giocatore non ha ancora smaltito il problema al piede riportato durante gli ultimi giorni di preparazione ai Mondiali FIBA 2019, e salterà le prime tre settimane di training camp, lavorando a parte.
Kuzma non prenderà dunque parte alla trasferta in Cina dei Los Angeles Lakers, che saranno impegnati a Shanghai e Shenzhen per due partite di pre-season contro i Brooklyn Nets. La notizia del problema fisico del giocatore era stata anticipata da Marc Stein del NY Times.

Il comunicato diffuso dai Lakers parla di “reazione da stress” al piede sinistro: Kyle Kuzma si era infortunato alla caviglia sinistra durante la prima delle due amichevoli disputate a Melbourne contro l’Australia com Team USA, ed era di conseguenza ritornato negli Stati Uniti mentre i compagni volavano in Cina per i Mondiali.
Il giocatore si sottoporrà a risonanza magnetica quando la squadra tornerà a Los Angeles dal doppio impegno di pre stagione, tra 10 e 12 ottobre.
Kyle Kuzma è stato in estate l’unico superstite del celebrato “young core” dei Los Angeles Lakers assieme a Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram e Josh Hart, spediti lo scorso giugno in toto ai New Orleans Pelicans in cambio della superstar Anthony Davis. Dopo aver viaggiato a 18.7 punti e 5.9 rimbalzi a partita nella sua seconda stagione NBA, e la prima giocata a fianco di LeBron James, Kuzma è atteso in questa stagione ad un nuovo salto di qualità per proporsi quale terza star della squadra, soprattutto dopo l’infortunio che ha tolto di mezzo DeMarcus Cousins.

Dopo il report di Marc Stein, che anticipava quanto poi ufficializzato dai Lakers, Kyle Kuzma aveva affidato al suo profilo Twitter una apparente replica alle notizie sulle sue condizioni fisiche, scrivendo – senza meglio precisare – “Pare che internet mi conosca meglio di quanto non faccia io“.
Kyle Kuzma dovrebbe inoltre diventare nei prossimi giorni uno degli endorser principali di Puma, già fornitrice dell’atteso rookie dei New York Knicks R.J. Barrett e di Rudy Gay dei San Antonio Spurs. L’azienda tedesca inizierà da questa stagione ad entrare in competizione assieme a brand come Under Armour e New Balance contro i colossi Nike e Adidas, che sono oggi rappresentate da circa l’80% dei giocatori NBA titolari di contratto in esclusiva da endorser.
