La stagione degli Atlanta Hawks è stata molto positiva e, almeno inizialmente, molto sorprendente. La squadra guidata da Mike Budenholzer è riuscita ad arrivare fino alle finali della Eastern Conference per poi essere eliminati dai Cavaliers di Lebron James. Sicuramente vorranno riconfermarsi ad alti livelli e, nonostante la perdita di Carroll tramite free agency, hanno confermato gran parte del roster dell’anno scorso.
Alcuni giocatori stanno risolvendo gli ultimi problemi fisici che hanno colpito gli Hawks nella parte finale della scorsa stagione. Due giocatori in netta ripresa sono Korver e Sefolosha che saranno fondamentali la prossima stagione.
Kyle Korver, ormai 34enne, ha giocato sicuramente la sua miglior stagione in carriera, soprattutto per quanto riguarda i risultati personali (primo All Star Game in carriera) e di squadra. Rappresenta a livello tattico un’arma micidiale per il gioco di Atlanta, grazie alle sue capacità di tiro e al suo lavoro sul lato debole con la quale riusciva ad attirare gran parte delle difese avversarie. E’ stato operato al gomito in estate ma molto probabilmente sarà pronto per il training camp.
Thabo Sefolosha avrà un ruolo più importante nelle rotazioni rispetto all’anno scorso, a causa anche della cessione del già citato Carroll. Il suo infortunio è molto diverso, infatti la rottura del perone risale ancora al suo famoso incidente con la polizia di New York insieme a Chris Copeland. Il rientro è previsto per l’inizio della prossima stagione, anche se non verrà forzato e gli verrà concesso tutto il tempo necessario per un pieno recupero.
Lo stesso Budenholzer si è sbilanciato sulle condizioni dei due cestisti tramite l’ Atlanta Journal-Constitution :“Vorrei dire che, in misura diversa, stanno prendendo parte ad alcune attività ora, comunque che si tratti di 2 contro 2 o 3 contro 3 tra oggi e il (training) camp potrebbero essere pronti per qualche 5 contro 5 limitato. Ma stanno facendo progressi al tiro, lavorando e facendo questo tipo di cose.”
Nonostante la ripresa di alcuni esercizi comunque il recupero non è molto vicino e sicuramente l’intenzione di Budenholzer e del suo staff è quella di procedere con cautela per essere sicuri della loro presenza alla partenza della Regular Season 2015/16.
