Il TD Pass di Steven Adams per Dennis Schroeder è l’highlight della vittoria degli Oklahoma City Thunder sui Minnesota Timberwolves, vittoria ai tempi supplementari però propiziata dall‘esperienza di Chris Paul.
I Thunder hanno battuto i Twolves per 139-127 alla Chesapeake Energy Arena, una vittoria importante e che mantiene OKC in linea per l’ottavo posto nella Western Conference. Per Paul, una gara da 30 punti e 7 assist, con 11 su 20 al tiro. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander chiude con 29 punti ed un perfetto 12 su 12 ai tiri liberi, mentre Danilo Gallinari ne aggiunge 21 con 7 rimbalzi.
La partita, ad alto punteggio dopo un terzo quarto da 41-39 Thunder ed equilibrata, si decide nell’ultimo secondo dei regolamentari: con i Twolves in lunetta con Karl Anthony Towns (30 punti e 8 rimbalzi) sul +2 Minnesota, coach Saunders chiama la sostituzione per mandare in campo Jordan Bell dopo il primo errore di Towns.

Bell entra in campo senza aver però messo come da regolamento la canotta dentro i pantaloncini da gioco, un dettaglio che non sfugge a Chris Paul, che richiama l’attenzione degli arbitri che non possono fare altro che assestare ai Timberwolves la seconda infrazione per “delay of game”, ed il seguente fallo tecnico.
Danilo Gallinari realizza il tiro libero del -1, Towns cerca di sbagliare di proposito il suo secondo tiro libero ma la palla finisce dentro, per il 122-120 Twolves.
Sulla rimessa da fondo, Steven Adams si esibisce in un passaggio baseball ad a una mano verso Dennis Schroeder (25 punti in 39 minuti per lui), che elude la marcatura di Jeff Teague ed appoggia al tabellone sulla sirena i due punti del pareggio.
Thunder-Twolves, Chris Paul: “Sapevo che era il secondo delay of game…”
La mazzata stende i Timberwolves, che nel supplementare segnano solo 5 punti e raccolgono l’undicesima sconfitta della loro stagione (11-10). “Io conosco il regolamento” Nel post gara Chris Paul spiega la sua “giocata” decisiva: “E questa è una cosa che succede molto spesso, e che gli arbitri non vedono mai, allora ho fatto notare loro che (Bell, ndr) aveva la maglietta fuori. Se entri in campo così, è un delay of game automatico. Se sapevo che era il secondo per loro? Certo…“.
I Twolves erano già stati sanzionati in partita con un primo “delay of game” a carico di Karl-Anthony Towns, entrato in campo con le ginocchiere protettive slacciate durante il primo tempo. “Non mi era mai capitata prima una cosa del genere” Spiega la star dei Timberwolves “E di partite di basket ne ho giocate davvero tante. Non parlo tanto del fischio arbitrale, tanto di tutto il finale pazzesco“.
“Ci sono così tante cose a cui pensare in campo” Così coach Ryan Saunders “Lo hanno visto ed hanno fischiato, è stata una partita fisica, difficile, nessuno guarda a queste cose. Perdere così fa male, avevamo fatto tutto il necessario per vincere, impareremo anche da questa“.

Protagonista del “siparietto” con Chris Paul è stato il fischietto NBA Scott Foster, lo scorso anno al centro di polemiche pesanti durante la serie di playoffs 2019 tra Golden State Warriors e Houston Rockets (ex squadra di Paul, ndr) per il suo metro arbitrale e per il suo atteggiamento nei confronti di James Harden: “Con Foster… incredibile vero?” Scherza Paul. Jordan Bell, protagonista suo malgrado, non ha voluto commentare l’episodio, così come Karl-Anthony Towns: “Non ho intenzione di essere multato, ormai è andata“.
Così Foster nel rapporto post partita: “Jordan Bell è entrato in campo con la maglietta fuori dai pantaloncini, e dopo la segnalazione di Mark Ayotte (secondo arbitro della terna, ndr) è stato sanzionato con un fallo tecnico“.
Jeff Teague ha macchiato con la sua distrazione difensiva una partita da 32 punti e 9 assist per i Twolves, che senza Andrew Wiggins infortunato hanno trovato un buona gara di Robert Covington (15 punti e 7 assist ,a 1 su 5 al tiro da tre punti) e di Jordan Bell, che ha chiuso con 12 punti e 5 rimbalzi in 21 minuti.
Per i Thunder, sono 22 con 11 rimbalzi e 4 stoppate i punti di Stevens Adams.
