“Nemmeno una stretta di mano“, così si è conclusa l’avventura di Andre Drummond ai Detroit Pistons, girato senza troppe cerimonie e con una mossa a sorpresa ai Cleveland Cavaliers in chiusura di mercato NBA.
I Pistons hanno spedito Drummond ai Cavs in cambio di John Henson, Brandon Knight ed una futura seconda scelta, la più classica delle svendite a presso di saldo per un giocatore non più indispensabile. Ed il due volte All-Star Andre Drummond ha affidato a Twitter tutta la sua delusione per i modi spicci con cui la sua ormai ex squadra lo ha salutato.
“Se c’è una cosa che ho imparato nella NBA è che non esistono amicizia e lealtà“, così Drummond “Ho dato cuore ed anima per i Pistons, e vedere tutto finire così, senza cerimonie mi fa comprendere ancora di più che la NBA è solo business. Detroit, ti amo ed avrai sempre un posto speciale nel mio cuore. Spero che i Cleveland Cavs siano pronti! Finiamo l’anno al meglio“.
I Detroit Pistons, la cui stagione è deragliata definitivamente con lo stop di Blake Griffin per infortunio, hanno atteso solo l’ultimo momento per scaricare Andre Drummond ed inaugurare la rifondazione della squadra. Ed Stefanski e Arn Tellem hanno resistito ai primi (timidi) approcci di Atlanta Hawks e New York Knicks, per poi ritrovarsi la sola offerta dei Cavaliers a disposizione.

Nelle ultime ore si era fatta strada l’ipotesi che Drummond avesse intenzione, qualora fosse rimasto a Detroit, di esercitare la sua opzione giocatore da quasi 29 milioni di dollari per la stagione 2020\21, zavorrando di fatto ancora per un anno il processo di smantellamento del roster attuale.
I contratti di Henson e Knight (un ex di ritorno) scadranno a fine stagione, mentre nell’immediato post trade deadline si sarebbe fatta largo l’ipotesi buyout per Reggie Jackson, altro contatto in scadenza in estate.
