Non si placa l’ira di Jerry West nei confronti della serie HBO “Winning Time”. La serie dal titolo che racconta i Los Angeles Lakers dello Showtime degli anni ’80 ha fatto infuriare proprio l’ex giocatore dei Lakers. L’accusa di West nei confronti della produzione è quella di aver rappresentato in maniera del tutto falsa la sua figura all’interno della serie.
Nelle scorse settimane l’attuale dirigente dei Los Angeles Clippers aveva inviato una lettera, tramite i suoi legali, al produttore della serie Adam McKay. Nella lettera West aveva richiesto delle scuse formali nei suoi confronti e una rettifica ufficiale entro due settimane, minacciando chiaramente azioni legali in caso contrario.
L’ex Lakers si era dunque esposto solo tramite una lettera nei suoi legali. Ma in una recente intervista con il LA Times in occasione dell’uscita di un’altra serie, “The Dream Whisperer”, incentrata sulla carriera di Dick Barnett suo ex compagno ai Lakers, West ha rilasciato le sue prime dichiarazioni pubbliche sulla vicenda.
Parlando della serie ‘The Dream Whisperer’ ha infatti subito lanciato una frecciatina alla produzione di ‘Winning Time’, affermando che “sarà finalmente bello guardare qualcosa di accurato e positivo”. L’accusa di West infatti non si ferma solo alla raffigurazione negativa del suo personaggio. L’intera rappresentazione della squadra a suo dire è totalmente romanzata e lontana dal vero.
Proseguendo nell’intervista l’attuale dirigente dei Clippers ha affermato di non avere alcuna intenzione di fare passi indietro. Anzi si è detto pronto a portare l’intera vicenda fino alla Corte Suprema nel caso fosse necessario. “La serie ci ha fatto sembrare tutti dei personaggi da cartoni animati. Hanno sminuito qualcosa di buono. Se devo, porterò tutto questo fino alla Corte Suprema”.
HBO ha rilasciato martedì un comunicato di risposta nel quale afferma: “Winning Time non è un documentario e non è stato presentato come tale. Tuttavia, la serie e le sue rappresentazioni si basano su un’ampia ricerca sui fatti e su un approvvigionamento affidabile, e HBO sostiene risolutamente i nostri talentuosi creatori e il cast che hanno portato sullo schermo una drammatizzazione di questo capitolo epico della storia del basket”.
Nessuna delle due parti sembra dunque intenzionata ad indietreggiare.
Ricordiamo inoltre che la serie, attualmente in onda negli Stati Uniti su HBO, arriverà in Italia a giugno e sarà visibile per gli abbonati Sky e NowTV.
