L’11 agosto scorso aveva annunciato il ritiro, ma negli ultimi tempi aveva maturato l’idea di tornare a calcare i parquet della NBA. E così, dalla Pennsylvania, precisamente da Philadelphia, è arrivata la proposta che Elton Brand ha colto subito al volo: l’esperto lungo infatti firmerà a breve con i Sixers.
Come riportato da Shams Charania, il classe 1979 sottoscriverà a breve un contratto con la franchigia guidata da Brett Brown. Un affare che pareva nell’aria da settimane, visto che l’ipotesi di un suo arrivo si è presentata subito dopo l’insediamento di Jerry Colangelo nel front office. La prima scelta assoluta del draft 1999 darà una grossa mano sul piano dello spogliatoio con la sua grande esperienza più che sul campo, dato l’abbondanza di gioventù nella squadra. L’ultima avventura che Brand ha vissuto è stata quella con gli Atlanta Hawks, con cui ha giocato per circa due anni.
Per la fumata bianca i Sixers dovranno far posto nel roster: secondo le indiscrezioni riportate da Keith Pompey, Christian Wood, di ruolo ala grande, sarà tagliato permettendo così al veterano di diventare effettivamente un potenziale mentore per Jahlil Okafor e compagnia. La scelta della dirigenza darà i suoi frutti? Non basta che pazientare e vederlo all’opera in questo nuovo ed intrigante ruolo.
