Quando tutto sembra andare male, ci vuole poco per far felice una persona. Questo è quello che è successo a Jabari Parker. Nell’intervista postpartita dopo l’ultima gara della stagione, alla domanda su come fosse stato il suo primo anno al di fuori degli Stati Uniti, il giocatore del Barcellona si è lasciato andare ad un pianto liberatorio. “Erano lacrime di gratitudine. Non ero sicuro se sarei riuscito a giocare ancora. A Barcellona ho riscoperto l’amore per il basket.”
Al suo primo anno in Europa, l’ex giocatore dei Chicago Bulls non è riuscito a vincere neanche un trofeo con la sua squadra. Il Barca è stato infatti buttati fuori dall’Eurolega al primo turno dei playoffs dall’Olympiacos, è stata sconfitta per 3 a 0 nelle semifinali playoffs del campionato spagnolo dal Real Madrid e ha perso la finale della Copa del Rey sempre contro il Real Madrid. Ciò nonostante la seconda scelta al draft del 2014 ha comunque lasciato un bell’impatto sulla squadra di Roger Grimau. Nella sua prima stagione in Catalogna, Jabari Parker ha viaggiato a 10.6 punti e 4.2 rimbalzi di media in poco più di 23 minuti a partita.
“Sono molto fiero dei miei ragazzi,” ha detto il prodotto di Duke riflettendo su come sia andata la sua prima stagione oltreoceano. “Questo anno è stata una esperienza bellissima. Mi sono fatto nuovi amici. Il finale di questa stagione è stato un po’ amaro, ma l’importante è che stiamo tutti bene e che nessuno si sia fatto male. Ora i ragazzi possono tornare a casa e giocare con i loro figli e quindi per me questa è come una vittoria.”
