Che come tutte le favole, parte da lontano.
Storia della storia di una redazione
Flashback. È il 1998. Qualcuno annuncia che il mondo sta per finire, qualcuno teme il millenium bug, qualcun altro ancora tira dritto perché ciò che conta è l’oggi e al domani ci pensiamo poi domani. Tutti i componenti di questa redazione muovono i primi passi nel mondo, il basket magari è entrato nelle vite di qualcuno ma non di tutti, non possono sapere che nasceranno i social network e quindi non hanno ancora idea che tramite questi si conosceranno e che da lì si arriverà a un sito e al redazionale che avete sotto gli occhi in questo preciso momento. Siamo ancora nell’era analogica, dopotutto.
Dall’altra parte del mondo, espressione che in quel periodo ha più significato rispetto ad oggi ma ne ha meno rispetto anche solo agli anni ’40, è in atto una rivelazione che prende l’abbrivio da una rivoluzione, non proprio pacifica ma intellettuale e dunque almeno senza armi. Sede New York, e ci mancherebbe, luogo quello ad oggi più impensabile: la Marvel che non è più la casa editrice pimpante ed emergente degli anni ’60, né è ancora il colosso che conosciamo oggigiorno. Anzi…
La Casa delle Idee due anni prima ha rischiato la bancarotta, ora è in amministrazione controllata, il famoso/famigerato Chapter 11. La proprietà è conclamatamente in ambasce, l’obiettivo è tenere la testa sopra il pelo dell’acqua, non si sa nemmeno se le strategie a lungo termine riusciranno a esserci portate, a termine. Si vive alla giornata, a seconda della giornata.
Chi sorride è la Event Comics. È nata per sfida, per entusiasmo, dal disegnatore di origini latinoamericane Joe Quesada e dall’inchiostratore paisà Jimmy Palmiotti. È una fucina di idee, dove ogni pista viene battuta per di sperimentare linguaggi innovativi e accattivanti. Segnatevi questo punto, se vi state perdendo, perché sarà la vostra bussola.
Palmiotti e Quesada godono della stima dell’ambiente fumettistico, e dalla Marvel qualcuno dall’occhio lungo non ignora questo punto focale. Dai piani alti qualcuno fa piovere la proposta, e la leggenda narra che arrivi addirittura ad un party: mezzi finanziari e grafici illimitati, mano libera su storie e temi meglio se di cronaca o attualità, approccio autoriale ben gradito e anzi, caldamente consigliato. I due accettano, e ci mancherebbe, e si mettono al lavoro malgrado il resto della redazione Marvel li guardi di traverso e li sopporti poco e supporti ancor meno, per il semplice motivo perché agli “altri” tanta autonomia non è concessa.
Il progetto parte, l’etichetta è denominata Marvel Knights, con quattro titoli sotto la sua egida: Daredevil tormentato e fosco, Inumani intriso di intrighi da tragedia elisabettiana, Pantera Nera esotico e fantapolitico, Punisher mistico (per quanti conoscono il personaggio, pensate il paradosso). Ne seguono poi altri, sarebbe inutile fare l’elenco completo perché ciò che conta è che un approccio tanto originale e underground trascinò tutti i titoli Marvel a un rilancio in grande stile che ha portato alla Marvel che conosciamo oggi. Fine del flashback. Ora vediamo come questo si incrocia con la nostra storia.
Where innovation happens
Come è intuibile, e senza girarci tanto attorno, la strada che NBA Passion vuole seguire e l’obiettivo che vuole perseguire è quello della Event Comics prima e di Marvel Knights poi: un’informazione innovativa, dinamica, incisiva, autoriale, aperta a chi sa pensare out the box e a chiunque abbia da proporre un’angolazione accattivante, coinvolgente, provocante. Pur accettando di confrontarsi con tutti e di carpire spunti da tutti, il modello di NBA Passion è al di là dell’Oceano. Grantland, nel settore sportivo, e, come Quesada e Palmiotti di fronte all’offerta Marvel, ci mancherebbe, ma anche HBO, Netflix, Dark Horse Comics (quella di Sin City e The Mask, per intenderci) e chiunque abbia offerto un approccio inusuale e interessante nel proprio ambito di riferimento. Un approccio di passione, perché di quello si tratta: la passione è l’unica via tracciata e percorribile per parlare di pallacanestro in modo onesto e proattivo, innovativo. Il basket è arte e fisica allo stesso tempo, è chimica e psicologia, strategia militare e cultura, selezione naturale e pari opportunità.
Essendo così perfettamente bifronte, un paradosso tradotto in agonismo, la palla a spicchi non può che essere raccontata con passione, competenza certo, ma competenza appassionata e mai stanca, sempre curiosa, sempre alla ricerca, sempre insoddisfatta, come la Bocca di Rosa di De Andrè, e alla stessa maniera pronta ad attirarsi l’ira (e l’invidia) di quelle cagnette che si vedono sottratto l’osso solo perché sedutesi sugli allori non hanno combattuto con sufficiente forza per tenerselo. Una curiosità sempre energica, perché la palla a spicchi val bene una mossa. E quello è l’amor che muove ‘l sole, l’altre stelle e questa redazione: la passione.
Ora, non arriveremo mai ad affermare con tono sbruffone che NBA Passion è un sito americano nato a Roma per caso (quello lo pensiamo soltanto), ma allo stesso tempo non saremo mai pronti a negare che le fonti di ispirazione per noi arrivano da di là, dagli Stati Uniti. NBA Passion nasce come il sogno di dire qualcosa di interessante sul basket guardando al giornalismo anglosassone, si sviluppa come il sogno di dire qualcosa di interessante sul basket guardando al giornalismo anglosassone e maturerà come il sogno di dire qualcosa di interessante sul basket guardando al giornalismo anglosassone. Che poi l’obiettivo venga raggiunto in toto, in parte o per niente, beh, quello lo sa solo la chiaroveggente più prossima a voi e a noi, o almeno così presumiamo. Ma lo slancio nel tentativo di raggiungere questo obiettivo non mancherà mai, e tutto sarà teso proprio a questo, e l’ambizione a essere per l’informazione cestistica quello che Netflix è per le i canali televisivi rimane intatta, a condizione imprescindibile e insindacabile che non venga mai meno la passione. D’altra parte, il destino è nel nome, no?
