Klay Thompson is back, o quasi…
Arrivano infatti notizie confortanti dalla “rovente” San Francisco, e a portare questa news è proprio Steve Kerr. L’head coach dei Golden State Warriors in un’intervista con Anthony Slater di The Athletic è sembrato fiducioso per le condizioni e il ritorno di Thompson, dalle sue parole traspare ottimismo ma anche una certa cautela:
“Sì, è passato un po’ di tempo per lui. Ma l’ho visto un paio di volte quest’estate a Orange County, l’ho visto allenarsi e sta andando alla grande. Sembra stare davvero bene. Quindi non sono troppo preoccupato per Klay. Giocare 5 contro 5 è il prossimo passo logico per lui… Tutto è ancora da vedere, non voglio creare aspettative su nessun giocatore”.
La cautela è d’obbligo in questo caso, il prodotto di Washington è assente infatti dal parquet da quella spietata e amara gara 6 delle NBA Finals 2019, la quale regalò a Toronto il titolo e agli Warriors le ceneri della disfatta.
Era il 14 giugno 2019, 2 minuti e 20 da giocare nel terzo quarto, quando il ginocchio di Klay ha fatto crack. La diagnosi, rottura del legamento crociato anteriore sinistro, una botta tremenda nel roster della Baia già limitato dai tanti infortuni. Per Thompson stop obbligato per tutta la stagione 2019\20.
Il lento recupero di Klay Thompson
Il recupero è stato lento e lungo data l’entità dell’infortunio. Klay è tornato al lavoro per recuperare i lunghi mesi di stop verso l’inizio di giugno dopo il via libera dei medici e dello staff della franchigia californiana. Da vedere quindi in che modo quest’anno di stop abbia influito sul gioco e sulle meccaniche del talento degli Warriors.
Il ritardo dell’inizio della stagione, che avverrà non prima di natale come confermato da Adam Silver, commissioner del NBA, permette a Klay Thompson di avere a disposizione ulteriori 2 mesi per tornare ai livelli pre-infortunio, 21,5 punti, 4 rimbalzi e quasi 3 assist a partita.
Klay come sappiamo è indispensabile per la chimica del roster californiano, lui che con Steph Curry ha creato una vera e propria dinastia nella Baia. Sarà quindi fondamentale il suo ritorno, che, con la formazione al completo, Curry recuperato al 100%, un Draymond Green tornato dal letargo e la 2 scelta al draft potranno essere una fenice che risorge dalle proprie ceneri.
Per tornare a essere una contender e continuare la dinastia in quel di San Francisco è infatti necessario il ritorno del cecchino più letale della lega.
