Ancora senza Ben Simmons, che si sottoporrà ad una risonanza magnetica per i problemi alla schiena degli ultimi giorni, i Philadelphia 76ers possono poco o nulla contro i Milwaukee Bucks di un Giannis Antetokounmpo da 31 punti, 17 rimbalzi e 8 assist in soli 29 minuti.
La partita si spezza nel terzo quarto (37-23 il parziale), l’attacco dei Bucks con Antetokounmpo e Khris Middleton (25 punti con 10 su 15 al tiro) gira a pieni ritmi mentre dall’altra parte Joel Embiid fatica al tiro (5 su 18 per 17 punti finali) e non trova aiuto da parte di Tobias Harris, Josh Richardson e Alec Burks. I Sixers chiudono con il 35% al tiro e cedono nettamente a rimbalzo (57-43 il totale).
“Ci mancano 26 partite di stagione regolare, vogliamo usarle per crescere ancora come squadra“, così Giannis Antetokounmpo al solito attento a non mettere in ombra, con dichiarazioni e gesti, i suoi compagni di squadra “Loro pretendono da me che sia il miglior giocatore possibile, attento a me stesso ma senza essere egoista, due cose differenti. E se io posso crescerà ancora, allora anche la squadra può crescere. Vogliamo diventare più forti anche mentalmente, abbiamo tutto il tempo per guardare i video, valutare e correggere i nostri errori“.
Ben Simmons deve alzare bandiera bianca dopo soli 7 minuti di gioco, l’australiano due volte All-Star aveva saltato la partita contro i Brooklyn Nets per un problema alla schiena ma aveva tentato di giocare la grande sfida contro i Bucks, Come riportato da Adrian Wojnarowksi di ESPN, i 76ers sono “moderatamente preoccupati” per le condizioni di Simmons, che potrebbe essere costretto a saltare qualche partita.
Joel Embiid si infrange contro il muro difensivo dei Bucks: Brook e Robin Lopez costringono Embiid a soli 17 punti, mentre Giannis apre il terzo periodo con 11 punti consecutivi e chiude la faccenda.
“Joel è un gran bravo ragazzo, mi piace. In campo siamo fieri avversari, ha personalità” Giannis concede l’onore delle armi a Embiid, che dopo la vittoria contro i Nets si era autoproclamato “il più forte giocatore del mondo”. “E’ giusto, ogni grande giocatore nella NBA deve ritenersi il più forte, chi sono io per dire il contrario? Però quando si va in campo, vogliamo dimostrarlo, ed è quello che cerco di fare io. Non c’è nulla di male in questo“.
“Questo è quello che chiediamo a Giannis”, segue Khris Middleton “Di essere il migliore del mondo, e di provarlo sera dopo sera, Noi saremo sempre accanto a lui, pronti ad aiutarlo“.
