La bolla di Orlando ha messo a dura prova la tenuta psicologica dei giocatori NBA, anche nel caso di una superstar come LeBron James. Il n°23 dei Los Angeles Lakers ha, infatti, ammesso ai microfoni di Ben Golliver del Washington Post di aver preso in considerazione l’idea di lasciare il campus di Disney World.
“Ci sono stati molti giorni e molte notti in cui ho pensato di andarmene. Penso che lo abbiano fatto tutti, anche voi giornalisti. Non c’è una persona che non l’ha fatto”.

I giocatori delle squadre ancora in corsa nei playoffs sono, infatti, in Florida da quasi due mesi. In questo lasso di tempo così lungo hanno dovuto fare i conti con la lontananza dalle rispettive famiglie, oltre che all’obbligo di alloggiare in comuni stanze d’albergo senza tutti i comfort delle proprie abitazioni.
Secondo Doc Rivers, coach dei Clippers, questi particolari potrebbero aver influito sulla volontà di molti di interrompere la stagione negli scorsi giorni, col pretesto della lotta al razzismo in seguito all’aggressione di Jacob Blake. “Tutto questo mi ha aperto gli occhi riguardo alcune cose che mi stavano sfuggendo. Ci si dimentica quanto sia dura la vita nella bolla. E quando abbiamo parlato, anche quello è venuto a galla. Sapevo fosse duro, ma sentire i ragazzi parlarne ci ha dato ancora più consapevolezza.” ha concluso poi “Non credo sia un caso che tutti stiano diventando più emotivi. Non sto scherzando. Credo che essere schiacciati tutti insieme qui porti a questo.”
Tornano di moda in questi giorni anche le parole del GM dei Los Angeles Lakers, Rob Pelinka, che prima ancora della ripartenza della stagione aveva sottolineato l’importanza del fattore psicologico: “Penso che Orlando, viste le straordinarie circostanze, sarà allo stesso tempo una sfida fisica e mentale. Una squadra come la nostra, in cui c’è grande affiatamento, avrà un vantaggio. Questo gruppo di ragazzi ama stare insieme e giocare insieme. Questo è stato un aspetto importante nelle prime 63 partite”.
Fortunatamente fra pochi giorni i giocatori potranno finalmente tornare ad abbracciare i propri cari. Le famiglie delle 8 squadre rimanenti potranno recarsi nella bolla, comprese quelle dei Lakers di LeBron James. I giallo-viola si sono infatti garantiti il passaggio del turno contro i Portland Trail Blazers, ed attendono ora di conoscere la propria avversaria nelle semifinali di Conference. Ogni giocatore sarà autorizzato ad invitare ad Orlando fino a 4 persone, anche se si potranno fare eccezioni a questo limite per i bambini.
