Non è bastata un altra grande performance di Jimmy Butler ai Miami Heat per riuscire a sconfiggere i Boston Celtics in gara 7 delle Eastern Conference Finals. Un tiro da 3 sul ferro a circa 17 secondi dalla fine del prodotto di Marquette ha impedito alla franchigia di Pat Riley di raggiungere i Golden State Warriors alle NBA Finals. E proprio il tiro da 3 è stato uno dei fattori per cui gli Heat hanno perso. Infatti Miami ha tirato 6 su 30 dalla lunga distanza nella sconfitta per 100 a 96 contro i Celtics.
Dopo una prestazione da 47 punti, 9 rimbalzi e 7 assist in gara 6, ne è arrivata un’altra da 35 punti e 9 rimbalzi in gara 7. A differenza di quella precedente, però, quest’ultima non è bastata per portare i suoi compagni a rigiocarsi le Finali NBA dopo quelle del 2020. “Lo si può mettere nella categoria delle superstar. Per me è, a mani basse, uno dei più forti ‘two-way players’ della lega,” ha detto Bam Adebayo su Jimmy Butler. “Una cosa che amo di questa squadra è come abbiamo lottato contro qualsiasi avversità durante tutto l’anno.”
“Quando finisce, finisce con un tonfo,” ha detto i coach degli Heat Erik Spoelstra sulla stagione della sua squadra. “Nutro un così grande rispetto per chiunque abbia fatto parte di questo spogliatoio e per quello che tutti hanno dato a questa squadra. Davvero una stagione e una postseason memorabili. Penso che sarebbe stato un incredibile finale. Jimmy che prende e tira da 3. Quello è ciò che amo di Jimmy. Quello era il tiro giusto. Mentre stava lasciando la sua mano ho pensato per certo che quel tiro entrasse. Da solo, con spazio. Era decisamente meglio di qualsiasi cosa avremmo potuto progettare. Peccato solo che non sia entrato.”
L’ex giocatore dei Bulls ha viaggiato a 27.4 punti e 7.4 rimbalzi, 4.9 assist e 2.1 palle rubate di media in questi playoffs. Nonostante ciò, questi numeri non lo soddisfano. “Non è stato abbastanza. Ho imparato che devo essere migliore, e sarò migliore. Ora si torna al lavoro.”
Questa è stata la terza volta che una squadra di Miami testa di serie è stata sconfitta in casa nell’ultima partita di una serie. La prima è stata nel 1999, quando l’ottava testa di serie New York Knicks aveva vinto per 78 a 77 in gara 5 grazie ad un tiro di Allan Houston ad un secondo dalla fine. Poi è successo nel 2005 quando, contro i Detroit Pistons seconda testa di serie, Miami era stata battuta 88 a 82 dopo un parziale di 10 a 3 negli ultimi 90 secondi della partita da parte di Detroit.
